Breast cancer stages are being based in the size of the malignant cells tumor, whether lymph nodes are affected or the tumor cells have expanded affecting other systems of the body beyond the breast. The main motive of cancer staging is for categorizing the level of the cancer which is affected by a majority of factors. Breast cancer stages are generally categorized into 4 stages. There is a stage 0 which is described as non-invasive cancer of the breast tumors. There is no trace yet of malevolent growth of cells that have broke out of the cell they have started in. Stage 1 is where the malignant cancer cells start infiltrating neighboring tissues of the breast. The tumor during this stage measures about 2 centimeters and there are no lymph nodes involved yet. Breast cancer survival rates during this stage are still at 90% chance of cure or survival.

Cancer of the breast stage two can be divided into two sub categories. Stage 2 A cancer of the breast is when the there are no tumor found in the breast but they are found in the auxiliary lymph nodes and it measures about 2 centimeters but may not exceed 5 centimeters. Stage 2 B cancer of the breast is where the malignant cancer tumor are found in the breast and have not yet spread towards the auxiliary lymph nodes and may have grown above 2 centimeters but not above 5 centimeters. The survival rates during this stage drops down to 60%c chance of survival in a 5 years span.

Stage 3 cancer of the breast is when the malignant cancer cells have spread from the breast or the auxiliary lymph nodes towards the neighboring tissues outside the regions of the breast. The tumor has grown beyond 5 centimeters during this stage.

Stage 4, which is considered as the terminal stage is when the invasive cancer cells have spread towards the other organs of the body. During this stage, breast cancer survival rates fluctuate to a 10% chance of survival. Breast cancer stages are the doctor’s way of giving the best possible solution to the predicament the patient has. Usually a specialist will decide to remove the cancer tumor at the earliest possible time.
