Are There Occupational Hazards to Skin Cancer?

No one wants to get skin cancer and yet it is becoming more and more common in our population. If treated early before it starts spreading. The more fair skinned you are the bigger your risk of getting skin cancer. Melanomas is most common with folks living in Australia and India, while basal and squamous cell cancers seem to be much more prevalent in the Southern Half of the United States.

Melanomas is most common with those between 50 and 70; and basal and squamous cell cancers are generally not seen unless the patient is over 50. But, let’s discuss some of the occupational hazards to skin cancer, shall we?

Occupation and activities have a lot to do with skin cancers. Folks that work in chemical plants or around chemicals are much more likely to get skin cancer. Even someone who cleans pools, who also get a double whammy as those who work outside are much more likely to get skin cancer also. Consider if you will all the types of professions where people work outside;

Construction
Soldiers
Sailors
Life Guards
Policemen
Farmers

These folks are at a much higher risk of getting skin cancer, along with folks that handle distillation and fractionation products of coal, oil shale, lignite or petroleum. If you work outside or in any industry that is similar to any of these then you should have a dermatologist give your skin a complete look over starting at age 50 or so. Be smart and protect yourself.
