Some Common Symptoms of Stomach Cancer

Though the number of deaths caused by stomach cancer has decreased significantly in recent years, it can still be deadly. This particular type of cancer can start in any part of the stomach and eventually spread to other areas of the body, if untreated. Though there are some symptoms of stomach cancer, testing always needs to be done in order to determine whether or not it is actually present.

Unfortunately, many symptoms are non-specific and can be easily attributed to a variety of other conditions. However, each of these symptoms is serious and should always be checked out by a medical professional. Some of the more non-specific symptoms can often include vomiting, nausea, and a loss of appetite. Cancer sufferers may also experience bloating, especially after meals, which can be paired with indigestion and heartburn.

Sudden weight loss may also be a common symptom. Anyone who loses about five percent of their body weight within six months or less without dieting should seek immediate medical attention. Prolonged and unexplained exhaustion is another general symptom when it comes to this horrible disease. Abdominal pain, ranging from dull and constant to severe and unbearable, may mean that someone has symptoms.

Problems with bowel movements can also be a sign of stomach cancer. Many people have constant constipation and diarrhea. Blood in bowel movements points towards stomach cancer as well. However, many times blood cannot initially be seen in the stool. Tests can be done to determine whether or not someone is producing a bloody stool.

Though deaths from stomach cancer are on the decline, they are not obsolete. Knowing as much as possible about it is the best way to help someone who may be diagnosed with the disease. Recognizing the symptoms of stomach cancer will allow someone to get the proper medical attention before the cancer becomes too advanced.
